Firm History


SCL History

Strickland, Chesnutt & Lindsay, LLP, was founded in 1974 by W. Michael Strickland who came to Winder after practicing in Jessup, Georgia, with the firm of Thomas, Howard Smith.The firm was initially located across from the Barrow County Courthouse.

In 1975, Samuel L. Chesnutt joined the firm and on the Bicentennial, July 4, 1976, the partnership of Strickland & Chesnutt was formed.

In 1987, the firm relocated to 76 West Candler Street, Winder, in a circa 1917 building on the Historic Register.

On January 1, 2000, John J. Lindsay, who had been an associate with the firm, became a partner in Strickland, Chesnutt & Lindsay, LLP.

In 2001, the firm opened an office in Athens, Georgia, which continues to serve that area.

The firm has grown into one of the largest firms in the Piedmont Judicial Circuit and enjoys a reputation of quality legal  representation and service to the communities it serves.
